WEDNESDAY NIGHT COMEDY
The Avenue | 11 September | 7:30pm
Danielle Walker (Get Krack!n, ABC’s Comedy Up Late) is an award-winning, internationally touring comic originally from the bush, this week joining us from Melbourne as your headline act for Wednesday Night Comedy at The Avenue! Triple J’s Ciaran Lyons is with us from Sydney hosting a gut-buster line up – give us a call and book your table: (07) 5592 1678.
Danielle Walker is a strange, if not perhaps slightly deranged girl known for her dark and twisted everyday observations and stories. Moving from Townsville to Melbourne in 2015, Danielle started gigging and honing her craft and it was in early 2016 that she took out the prize in Australia’s biggest open mic competition and was named Raw Comedy National Champion. Since then, Danielle has been handpicked by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival to be part of ‘The Comedy Zone’ a line-up show in the festival of the 5 best new comedians from around Australia and has gone on to appear on Comedy Up Late and Stand and Deliver, both for the ABC. Danielle recently appeared as ‘Ranger Danny’ alongside stars Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney on the show everyone is talking about – Get Krack!n for ABC TV . In 2017 she was also invited to perform at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Just for Laughs festival, where her set was be filmed for a special to broadcast on The Comedy Channel. Danielle’s first hour long stand up show Bush Rat won her the Best Newcomer Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2018. Winning this prestigious award will see Danielle take her show to the Soho Theatre in London’s West End later in the year.
“Insane pay-offs, delivered with the unhinged laugh a Batman villain would be proud of.” – Chortle
At only 21 years old, Ciaran Lyons is one of Australia’s fastest rising comedians. Since winning the 2013 Perth Comedy Festival Next Gen Comedian award, he has gone on to regularly perform sold out shows at comedy clubs all over the country, opening for big name comics such as Akmal, Lawrence Mooney, Nazeem Hussain Sammy J & Randy. Building on this momentum, Ciaran was voted by The Sunday Times as one of WA's Hottest 100 People of 2016 (alongside the likes of Tame Impala, Troye Sivan and Danny Green), is a presenter on national youth station Triple J, and has regularly appeared as a Metro Whip Presenter for Network Ten’s The Project. His selection for the 2015 Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Comedy Zone – showcasing five of Australia’s best new comedians led to a string of sold out solo shows across Australia, and appearances at prestigious events such as ABC Comedy Bites Gala, Splendour in the Grass "Wil Anderson and Friends", Comedy Under the Stars and Triple J’s Good Az Friday.
