WEDNESDAY NIGHT COMEDY

The Avenue | 4 September | 7:30pm

Winner of the MICF Best Newcomer 2019, Blake Freeman is a killer act! He’s been touring all over the country, but this week he is with us as your headline for Wednesday Night Comedy. Fresh back from Edinburgh Fringe, the UK’s Dan Willis hosts the show from 7:30pm! Book your table: (07) 5592 1678.

Blake Freeman is one of Australia’s brightest new comedians, making a name for himself with his own brand of energetic and disarmingly honest comedy. Through his youthful energy and charismatic delivery Blake weaves charming stories, making the intensely personal relatable. In 2018 he was hand-picked for Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s prestigious Comedy Zone and appeared on ABC TV's Comedy Up Late series, toured nationally and hosted his own radio show. 2019 is proving to be a breakthrough year for Blake – His debut stand up show 'There's Something There'  was nominated for, and won, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s award for ‘Best Newcomer’, had a sell-out season at both the Brisbane and Sydney Comedy Festivals, and travels to the acclaimed Soho Theatre in London’s West End.

"This guy is live and direct and has the easy, candid demeanour of a man born to be a comedian."  - Herald Sun 2019

“Funny, likeable... spins a yarn with air.” — Adelaide Advertiser

In 2002 after winning the Time-Out Competition to be a Perrier judge at the Edinburgh festival, Dan Willis made the move from computer programmer to full time comedian.  The IT crash also made this move slightly easier, if not essential- you’ve got to see the funny side of things after all. Willis performed in Edinburgh for the first time in 2002 with the Amused Moose Hot Starlets, a showcase of comedians including Greg Davies, Matthew Osborn, Nina Conti, Rhod Gilbert and fellow North-Easterner Patrick Monaghan. Now, after over 2000 gigs in 11 different countries, including TV appearances in the UK and Australia. Willis performs in all major comedy clubs as a headline act or MC (Comedy Store, Jongleurs, Comedy Central, etc), and International festivals throughout the globe performing solo shows (New Zealand and Melbourne Comedy Festivals, Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringes to name but a few).

Comedy in the back room at The Avenue is a Wednesday night staple in Surfers Paradise – every week from 7:30pm! With huge lineups and some of the best comedians from around the country and abroad, prepare your laughing gear to see some of the best from around the country and around the world. We can't wait to see you there.
